NSF-PGRP "potato" summer outreach program

Each summer, we welcome two interns from the Science Educational Equity (SEE) program at Sacramento State to participate in potato research at the University of California, Davis for 8 weeks. This program will be active for three years, beginning Summer of 2016.

Summer 2016

We are very excited to welcome Sophia Jinata from Sac State, who has been working with graduate student Kirk Amundson from the Comai lab.

Besides delving into the potato genome, Sophia is also maintaining a blog that captures her experience in and outside the lab. If that link doesn't work, you can access Sophia's blog at http://potatoesummer.blogspot.com/ by copying this address directly. This past week, we performed a few potato haploid induction crosses in the greenhouse:

Carina Franco (L) and Kirk Amundson (R) observing Sophia Jinata (Center)
as she carefully removes stamens from potato flowers.
